Overview

Abercrombie & Fitch (A&F) was established in 1892 as a specialty retailer and continues to be a leading, global, omnichannel specialty retailer of apparel and accessories for men, women and kids through five renowned brands. Furthering A&F’s mission of making every day feel as exceptional as the start of a long weekend, the A&F Digital Product and Design team is helping establish a tremendous digital presence for their customers. It’s because of the impact they’ve made to the organization’s top and bottom line that they’re in a position to continue their growth and development.

As the  Digital Product and Design team grows, there’s a need to ensure their foundation is strong and clearly focused. For the team, that means knowing who they are to the organization, just as much as to their fellow team members. And, it requires reflection and assessment of their core strengths, abilities and areas primed for growth and development.

To establish a baseline and course of action for the team’s ongoing design leadership and maturity development, we created a first-of-its-kind framework and assessment tool and roadmap that includes opportunities prioritized for growth, development and impact. Our work together is helping inform the short- to long-term shaping of the team.

Outcomes

Outcomes of our engagement with Abercrombie included, but were not limited to:

  • Envisioned the broader team story: Partnering with Inzovu to bring employees together, many for the very first time, A&F reflected on the Digital Product and Design team’s overall strengths and opportunities, and crafted a vision for the team including crafting connected stories across teams.
  • Developed a design team leadership and maturity assessment framework: A&F developed a deeper understanding of critical categories and supporting elements of successful design teams, including how best to assess their own team.
  • Established a baseline for team growth and development: Through the assessment, A&F’s Digital Product and Design team leaders learned what’s working, what’s not working and where opportunities exist for further growth, development and impact. This was the first of its kind for A&F and included connecting the team’s work to company values and standards.
  • Crafted an actionable roadmap: With Inzovu’s partnership, a roadmap was developed to guide the Digital Product and Design team’s ongoing growth and development. The roadmap provides insights to operationalize growth and development, and processes to maximize engagement and accountability across the team.
